Grief. It is just one simple word, but when you experience it, it becomes completely life-changing. Losing a dearly loved one creates a massive “tower moment” in your life, leaving you feeling incredibly vulnerable and insecure. As an energy healer who has experienced deep grief firsthand, I wanted to discuss how life-changing situations send your energy system into crisis, and reach out to those who may be navigating this difficult path.

As humans, we are designed to care for and love others, and we very rarely focus on ourselves. However, the journey forward through grief requires a completely different approach. When reflecting on my own journey and working with clients, two poignant questions always arise:

Grief and Your Chakras

How does this life-changing trauma affect your energy system? Our bodies are incredibly complex, and we often take our health for granted when everything is going well.

Breaking the energy system down in a simplistic form, there is the mental aspect, the physical aspect, and the emotional aspect. We have an outer energy field and our inner energies. You may have heard of the aura, our outer energy field. We are covered in energy points that different therapists tap into, but I am going to focus on the main points. These are called chakras. Situated down the centre of the body, they are vortexes of energy moving at their own frequency and speed, and it is important to recognise that our energies change all the time.

When a computer is overloaded, it stops working effectively and needs a system cleanse. Similarly, deep shock causes the human body to shut down, affecting our mental, physical, and emotional energy centres (known as chakras).

Grief hits like a thunderbolt, often leaving us feeling completely numb. The mental aspect of the body struggles to process thoughts or make decisions. What used to be simple becomes overwhelming, which in turn affects how we communicate. You might feel a heavy mental weight, which quickly translates into feeling physically drained.

Emotionally, grief brings a loss of confidence, low self-esteem, and overwhelming sadness. The solar plexus chakra is a complex wiring system connected directly to our nervous system. Sudden shock or trauma puts this energy centre into fight-or-flight mode. This directly impacts the heart centre (the heart chakra), which is why we literally feel “heartbroken”. When the body is in fight-or-flight mode, the heart can tend to race and our breathing can also be affected.

Moving Forward in Small Steps

Physically, you may feel entirely empty and shattered, making the simplest daily tasks feel like a mountain to climb. This heavy tiredness is a natural way for your body to release stress and shock. Sometimes, this stress and shock can also express itself as a short physical illness, as the body finds a way of releasing what it has been carrying.

When facing these moments, do you reach for depression medication (with absolutely no judgement), stay numb in the darkness, or take what can feel like the hardest step of all: choosing to focus on yourself and your own healing?❤️

I genuinely believe we have feelings for a reason; they are part of how we express ourselves. However, none of us likes to feel out of control of our emotions, and this is why I particularly wanted to reach out to anyone experiencing grief.

It is completely okay to feel deep sorrow, anger, or fear. With time and patience, those feelings will subside. Looking after yourself and accepting the love and support around you is essential. A combination of therapies can help, including meditation, Reiki, talking, being in nature and exercise, all helping to treat and support the whole holistic body. Small steps lead to big ones. There is absolutely no time limit or expectations, so don’t put pressure on yourself. You will find out things about yourself, and you will gradually start to rebuild your life in a different way, never forgetting and remaining so grateful for the precious time you had together.

Love is a powerful emotion that never dies. With time, patience, and self-love, you will learn to carry those beautiful memories, individual qualities, and special moments in your heart as you move forward. They remain with you: not in the physical world, but in a spiritual sense, and it does take strength and courage to accept this.

If you are currently going through grief, please know that you are not alone. I want to send my love to all of you, and thank you so much for taking the time to read my thoughts. I truly appreciate it.

Take care, Julia ❤️ xxx
